Program

The People’s Climate March San Diego will take place at Waterfront Park, 1600 Pacific Highway, San Diego, CA 92101. We will meet at the County Administration Building steps on the west side at 10am. Live music, a Native American ceremony, and a Kid’s Zone with games and facepainting will be featured. Opening music, speeches and calls to action will be followed by a short loop march, and then we will regroup at the park afterward to complete the program. All times are approximate. 10:00 am

  • Welcome and Introduction, with MCs Rev. Dr. Beth Johnson, Palomar Unitarian Universalist Fellowship and Eryn Wilson, Alliance San Diego
  • Music by the Peace and Freedom Chorus, with choir leader Marshall Voit and Peggy Watson

10:15 am

  • Opening blessing and comments by Bobby Wallace of the Barona Band of Mission Indians of the Kumeyaay Nation
  • California State Assembly Member Lorena Gonzalez Fletcher
  • Professor Jeff Severinghaus, Scripps Institution of Oceanography 
  • Professor Jim Miller, American Federation of Teachers, Labor Council Environmental Caucus, and City College
  • SDSU Environmental Engineering student Willow Lark and UC San Diego student Mukta Kelkar

11:00 am

  • 1-mile loop march (see route here) led by student contingent and featuring puppets, sunflowers, butterflies and more
  • Music by Veracruz Blues

Activities in the park throughout the event include:

  • Kid zone – activites for children, by the playground and water activities
  • Tables – partner organizations will have information about their work and how you can get involved
  • Sign contest with student judges (after the program ends, around 12:45 pm)
  • Puppet display (by the San Diego Puppet Insurgency)
  • Additional performances
